Chill Reflexology, Bali Indonesia
Chill Reflexology is a sister property to Prana Spa and was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. What makes Chill so unique is because it is devoted to reflexology and acupressure treatments. Which I have to be honest, while I have had reflexology and acupressure as part of my treatments, I have never booked a true reflexology treatment. I think this is because usually they are just 30 minutes treatments focusing on the foot. This was absolutely NOT the case with Chill and has changed me forever on good reflexology and acupressure treatments.
So Chill Reflexology is a very different concept than a spa. First of all, it is exclusively all men. You can have a female upon request, but honestly you don’t even undress for the treatment, so it’s not really the same as wanting a same sex therapist. I just find it interesting that is exclusively men.
The Chill Reflexology Experience
The treatment begins first with washing your feet. This to be honest is common in a lot of place, especially in Asia, or spas with an Asian focus. I know I had my feet washed prior to treatments at Prana, as well as Banyan Tree in Singapore, and event at The Mandarin Oriental in various cities. It’s true that it’s not limited to Asian spas, as I have had this ritual other places as well, but it does seem a little more common in Asia ones.
Anyway, at Chill the experience is a little different. There are a few seats, with what is like a long trough sink running the length. And your therapist will wash your feet, but you may be sitting in a row with other guests who have similar appoint times. In my case, one other woman was starting with me. So we got to talking. She was from Australia and on holiday (vacation) in Bali. She said that her massage therapist back home in Australia had been to Bali and had come to Chill and raved about it, and told her client (my fellow guest) to check this place out when she was in Bali.
Excitement for Chill Reflexology
I was super excited. I mean I am always excited to try out a new spa or a new service and I love to do something I have never done before the more out there the better. So, I was already super excited for my Chill experience. But a raving review from someone in the business was just adding to my excitement. Especially because in addition, there was another woman who had just had a 60 minute treatment and immediately on way her out was trying to book another 90 minute treatment before she left Bali at the end of her vacation. This place definitely has some magic!
The Reflexology Treatment
So, after your foot bath, you enter the main room just adjacent to the foot bath area. It is all this open room, with sheer curtains in between “stations”. So as you enter the room, there may be other guests mid-service. But honestly, as I think about it now, its really not distracting to you if someone enters the room, I think because you are just so blissed out!
So each of the stations are comprised of chaise lounge. A bolster/wedge type pillow is placed behind you so that you can comfortably recline. You have headphones to just chill out and listen to the music. Along the wall is a shelving unit, where the therapist as all their different bolsters and such. And so the therapist will begin working on the reflexology of the feet. Most of the initial time is spent on the feet but then the therapists will move up to the ankles and legs. The then the therapist will move to your arms and shoulders and work on the neck shoulders and head.
So it’s interesting, because my regular massage therapist can never get my one wrist to crack the way that she wants. I don’t know why, but that wrist just usually doesn’t crack for anyone, even though it needs it. And here, with a few minutes (more than any massage would every devote to it), my therapist was working on all the muscles around the wrist and in one move, my wrist cracked like it never had before! I was hooked in that minute. The bolster you have been resting on is removed so that you can also lie face down with a face cradle and then they can work on your back.
Overall
This remains one of my favorite experiences and treatments of all time, not just in Bali. I recommend Chill Reflexology to anyone who is in Bali. It’s not the typical spa, and as I said only focus on reflexology and acupressure. But never before in my life had I realized how relaxing 90 minutes of reflexology can be and how good that can feel on the body afterwards. A very different experience than 90 minutes of massage.
I do dream of returning to not only Bali, but also Chill someday. It is definitely should be on your bucket list too!
