Of course, by now you know that I can’t go anywhere new without at least checking out one spa! So when I had a chance to head to Asia, specifically Singapore for the first time, I knew I needed to make time for a spa visit.   I had searched out potential spas.  My colleague had a friend who visited Singapore quite often and recommended the Banyan Tree Spa.  Since that was on my list — done and done.

I tried booking our appoints online and was not showing any availability.  A couple of hours later, the hotel concierge at the Intercontinental where we were staying had hooked us up with 90 minute treatments. Yeah!  You got to love concierges and their connections.

The Banyan Tree Spa is located on the upper floor of one of the towers in Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Casino in Singapore.   Upon entering the Spa Reception, you are escorted to a lobby off to the side of the reception area.  Since we had only reserved time, we had to actually select our treatments.  After that (and for everyone else ) its time to take care of the payment.  Gratuity is already included in the bill.

From there, you will wait until you are called back for your appointment.  So this isn’t a spa where you will check in early and relax or lounge around.  There are no water amenities like a whirlpool, steam room, etc.   So, don’t plan to arrive to much more than 10-15 minutes before you treatment to check in and pay your bill.

The therapist will lead you back to your spa room.  Everything is all in one – the treatment room, the changing area, shower, bathroom, and locker.

I chose the  Signature Master Therapist Experience.  This started with a foot ritual, before moving to the treatment room and getting on the massage table.  The Master Therapist Experience included a variety of techniques and pressure.   The Therapist did ask if a stomach massage was ok.  I said it was, but a word of note, this is done with the sheet completely removed.   So if that is an issue for you, you may want to pass on the stomach massage.

After the massage, you get changed and then the Therapist will escort you to the Tea Room for some tea and light refreshment.    The views of Singapore are completely amazing.

Summary

If you are in Singapore and need some me/spa time, then by all means you should check out Banyan Tree Spa.  It just isn’t the type of spa where you will linger or lounge about, but that’s ok, because there is so much else to see and do in Singapore, you aren’t going to want to spend hours at the spa.
