Escape Day Spa
Being back in Nashville, I wanted to check out a different spa than my first spa, Mokara Spa at the Omni Nashville. My conference had me staying in Loews hotel, and so I was looking to see if they had a spa. They didn’t but had a partnership with a day spa, Escape. Pretty smart on their part to partner with one.
Escape is located in the greater Nashville area, but it is not in the downtown section. So, it was about a 15 minute drive or so (Uber or Lyft) from downtown. Escape is both a hair salon on the first floor, and then downstairs it houses the spa. So you do have to walk through the salon get to the spa.
As a day spa, its quite spacious, featuring an initial seating area to be greeted, and if I am not mistaken that is also the waiting area for any nail services. As you are escorted back, it features changing rooms. These changing rooms actually have their lockers assigned by size of the spa robe, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, so that is a little different.
What I Loved About The Spa
The spa features two spacious relaxation areas. I imagine these would both be pretty full and crowded if it was a peak spa time or if there was a bachelorette party there. But otherwise, there were a few other guests relaxing and so it was very tranquil.
The first of the two relaxation areas is in more of a main area by the treatment rooms. This area has a pretty cool effect on the ceiling to mimic the stars in the night sky. The second relaxation area is down the hall, past the changing rooms. This area features chaise lounges and has motion projectors on the way will different designs to induce relaxation. This was may favorite spot.
What I Didn’t Like About This Spa
I was late being met by my therapist. It was probably a good 10 minutes late or so. I honestly have never had that happen before. But she made no mention of the late start, she just began as thought this was the normal time. I really would have expected better customer service to apologize for the late start, as I was there waiting to be met by her. Additionally, I didn’t get the extra time made up, the appointment ended on its regular time. I can understand sticking to the original time, when I the guest am late, but when it’s the therapist, I believe the spa needs to accommodate in some way. Either acknowledge that she can’t extend the time and apologize or extend the time. Neither occurred.
The other issue I had is that my treatment room just happened to be right near a station for the staff to check their schedules. So it became a little bit of a gathering space for them when they were on break and thus it could be quite loud with their conversations at times. You would think working in this spa they would know this treatment room is right there and be more considerate of when a spa is in session. This was only unique to this treatment room, so you might fair better in a different room.
Overall
For me, It was nice to check a new spa, and I really did enjoy the uniqueness of the starry sky ceiling and the projection relaxation room. However, those were not enough to make me say that this is a spa you must see. If you are local to the area and don’t want to deal with tourists downtown, this is probably a good day spa. For me, a lot of how I rate a spa comes down to the details, and the fact that the therapist didn’t even acknowledge her late start and that the staff could congregate by a treatment room when a treatment in session, shows me that the spa does not really look at its spa through its guests eyes. There are other spas in Nashville for me that I would rather spend time at when I am in town.
You can read about my experience at Mokara Spa. And in 2018, right down the street from the Loews Hotel, there is a Woodhouse Day Spa adjacent to the Kimpton Nashville. I am a big fan of the Woodhouse Day Spa as far as franchise and spa chains go. So that is another option I would choose over Escape Day Spa.
