Coconut Surrender

I remember reading an article back in 2010, entitled “The Coconut Craze” about the health and beauty benefits of coconut oil.  Of course since that time, we have all seen the coconut craze kick into full gear, especially in the health and diet space, as many diets such as Paleo, Whole 30 among others advocate for Coconut Milk, Oils and Flours over traditional milks, and flours that are excluded on those regiments.

But in the spa, health and beauty industry, coconut has its own attributes.  It was often used un Ayurvedic rituals.  The oil is  deep moisturizer, and can be very nourishing to the skin, body and scalp.  In 2016, Organic Spa updated its article with the “The Coconut Oil Craze”.   So its no wonder you see coconut on many spa menus.

Several years ago, I  had the Deep Coconut Surrender Massage at the Spa at The Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. I admit I initially selected the massage because it was 70 minutes in duration. (Let’s face it, we all prefer more time getting massaged), but it indicates that it has more concentration on the back, neck and shoulders (my troubles spots.), but it was also listed in their menu of services as “heated indulgence”, which was the clincher for me in living the Gaelic motto of indulging the senses (Sámas).

Warm coconut oil was dripped on the body and massaged in. The scent of coconut and the warm oil and slow drip, completely indulged the senses, and it was one of the most relaxing massages I have had in a while. And there was the added benefit that my skin was hydrated, which was a definite plus in the middle of a desert.
