Encore Spa at the Wynn Las Vegas
The Wynn is consistently been ranked as one of the best spas in Las Vegas, so naturally it’s been on my #spabucketlist for a while. Recently, I had a conference that was at Venetian. Since I was right in the neighborhood of the Wynn, it was a great opportunity for me to try it. Unfortunately, at the time, the Spa at the Wynn was undergoing some renovations. I knew I wouldn’t get the full experience while under renovations. So I just decided I would wait until I have an opportunity to visit again. Luckily, their sister spa, the Spa at the Encore was available.
Spa Details
The Spa
Its funny how each casino in Las Vegas has a different vibe, and you definitely experience it as you meander through the casino getting to the spa’s location. In this case, at the Encore you get the full experience just walking up the casino as the pool complex entrance is there, and people were all lined up on a Thursday in September.
But eventually I found the oasis I was looking for – Encore Spa. As I checked-in, and I was handed a chocolate to enjoy while I waited for the spa attendant to come an get me. Here I had a moment to just relax and look around the vast area. There is the main reception area for the spa and a boutique. In no time at all, I was being escorted back to the women’s locker area.
After getting my robe, slippers, and quick tour of the facilities I was ready to RELAX!
Thermal Waters
There is an area to relax and experienced the whirlpools. It looked like a nice spot to relax and spend some time, but on this particular day it looked a little crowded and so I opted for the main relaxation area. Unfortunately my schedule that day was a little tight and I didn’t have as much time pre-spa appointment time as I would have liked. It did look like a nice spot, if you manage to spend some time there.
Relaxation Areas
The main waiting area for Encore Spa was comfortable enough. It has some couches as well as some lounge chairs. Here is where your therapist will meet you before and drop you off after your treatments This was the perfect spa for me to chill (and let’s face a little people watching, cause that’s always fun). Its always funny to me how the excitement builds as a and hour or half hour draws near and number of people of gathered for their spa treatment. As therapists walk in the room, people look in anticipation that maybe their name will be called.
It is true that for a 5 star rating by Forbes, the therapists are supposed to walk up to each guest personally and in no more than a whisper, say the guest’s name. It’s nice in theory, but I just don’t understand why it’s required for a rating, because honestly, it’s kind of annoying to me as a guest. If the therapist could just come out and say my name out loud we would be on our way to MY treatment. Instead, I am watching a therapist go to several other individuals before she gets to me. But this is why I am not in charge of ratings for Forbes. This is always why I have my own way of rating spas. But I digress.
As you are escorted from the main waiting room, you are shown through a doorway into another hallway area, which all of the treatment rooms are off of. This hallway of sorts (its more room than hallway) is STUNNING. I LOVED the peacock at the end. Honestly in person is better.
My Itinerary
You have access to the facilities until they close. However, for me, I wasn’t staying there. Since my treatment was in the middle of the day, I just added a little downtime post spa, before leaving, especially since as a I mentioned, I didn’t have as much time beforehand as I normally like. So if you have the chance definitely make sure of the thermal areas before your massage. I have written before how certain activities like yoga and hydra-therapy like whirlpools and steam rooms are great to loosen the muscles up before massage and let your therapist be even more effective. Not to mention, it helps you relax sooner, and longer.
I had Encore Spa’s custom massage, as I usually like this as a basis of comparison amongst different spas. But I would point out the Nalu Body massage. This is one of their specialty services and was probably the one that I wanted to pick, but didn’t.
What I Loved about the Spa at the Encore
So, I loved my treatment experience, but its pretty hard not to love a massage! But beyond that, what really distinguished my experience at this Spa at Encore was:
The Glam
Opulence is just the word that comes to mind, and the spa is designed with plenty of it. As mentioned, the great hallway with its elegant peacock, and of course all the furnishings and surroundings are just designed for ultimate in high-end glamour and elegance. The have popcorn dusted in edible gold! I love little details like that. Btw – if you want the recipe for the popcorn, it’s coming soon.
What Could Be Better?
Confirmations
A confirmation, the day before my appointment. I do tend to book these things in advance, since its kind of my job. It’s Vegas, so I get people are last minute in deciding to book a spa appointment, but confirmations are just that confirmations. At least the Encore, tells you that they won’t be confirming the appointment, so I could at least record the appointment in my calendar on the phone. But, I had a little snafu with Canyon Ranch where I didn’t get a confirmation, and didn’t know I wasn’t going to get one, and ended up missing an appointment. So my advice, is just as soon as you make your appoint, put it all in your phone.
Locker Area Upkeep
My other pet peeve was the locker area, this is was two fold. First was the sink area. They have these towel-like clothes that hand to hide the laundry carts underneath. I get why. It’s easy for the spa since they doing some much laundry of towels and spa robes. The staff can move the laundry carts in and out easily. But it just looks cheap and sloppy in comparison to everything else at the spa, which is really over the top glam and elegance. All spas have the same issue of linens, and most don’t have something that looks that tacky. The average person isn’t going to pick up on this, but I do. It’s kind of my job. But he’s why it matters, because the truth of a spa is in its details.
The second issue was that some people clearly missed and/or were too lazy to properly put their used spa robes in the receptacle. I am willing to say that this speaks mostly to the guests and their manners. However, it does also reflect a little on the spa, because it does also speak to how often an attendant is coming through there. In this case, I am willing to bet that it could have just been the timing that I came upon it rather than any real lack on attendants coming through routinely. As I said, this is squarely with the guests being a little too lazy to get the spa robe into the receptacle.
Summary
The Encore Spa at the Wynn in Vegas is for you if you want to immerse yourself in pure opulence. You won’t be disappointed by that. If you are staying at the Encore and want the convenience of spa close by, then this spa is a very good option. However, if you are at other spas, or looking for more value in your spa experience, there are better options.
