I recently ran a half-marathon (thank you very much!). Specifically the Disney Princess Half-Marathon. I actually had run it last year. However, that was my first one, and I remember running, and just feeling spent, and I was coming up on Mile Marker 10. My friend who had run 4 half-marathons, told me, you will hit mile 10 and start to feel good that you are almost done and only have 3 more to go. I could see it. But I could also see all these people running perpendicular to me, up above on an overpass. Oh yes, at mile 10 it was up a ramp we went to hit the overpass. And I think at that point I was just mentally over the whole half-marathon. So this year, I went back to tackle the ramp at mile 10 and the last 3 miles of the course.
But I had some major soreness. And here’s the thing, it wasn’t in my legs or any of the other muscles that had seriously just been tasked with carrying me 13.1 miles. In fact, this soreness had begun a full day before the half-marathon. A pain in the neck, literally. And yes, I had it for all 13 miles!
When I finally got home, it was Naturopathica’s Deep Muscle Rub and Muscle and Joint Gel to the rescue! I first discovered both the Naturopathica Deep Muscle Rub and Muscle Joint Gel during the Deep Relief Massage (a personal favorite of mine) at the Lodge for Woodloch. Think of these as your upscale and spa -inspired is an analgesic heat rub used to temporarily relieve muscle and joint pain associated with arthritis, bruises, simple backaches, sprains and strains. You know the brands you see advertised on TV. Well this is the Spa version.
The Deep Muscle Rub contains Sweet Birch, which Native Americans used for its pain-relieving qualities. This herb eases muscle soreness and joint stiffness. Whereas the Muscle and Joint Gel contains Arnica which is also known to soothe muscle and joints. These products get to work immediately and you feel them working for you. The Sweet Birch is well, very sweet smelling, along with a cinnamon scent. The Rub is very warming. The Arnica is a bit more woodsy, and more cooling. They can be used to ease sore muscles and joints depending on what you might be looking for.
