As a hotel, the Park Kenmare Hotel is really nice, but you have to be used to the typical Irish, English and Country Manor turned hotel. So, you have to know what you are getting into from an accommodations perspective.
From the hotel, you walk down a hall to connect to the more modern spa facilities of Sámas. From here you start to see the more traditional sights and sounds and dare I say it, indulges to the senses that are typical of the spa.
I had been looking forward to Sámas for 10 years. I had already decided Sámas was the perfect namesake for me. So my visit was truly both a homecoming and dream come true at the same time.
One of Sámas’s features is the water amenities, and they recommend spending as much time as possible in them. There are certainly indoor facilities in each of the locker rooms that include steam rooms and water therapies. But then you can step outdoors into the outdoor whirlpools. These have a variety of places to sit and stand and feature some unique water pressure treatments. In particular, I was a big fan of the jets on one particular item that is circular, and has jets that hit various points of the body, that we all have knots in.
After spending a good amount of time in the water treatments, you can dry off, and head to the waiting area for you treatments. I had both a massage and facial (different days). Post treatment you can relax in the lounge area, which to my delight – the picture from the magazine that I had been holding on to for 10 years, became a reality, and I got that exact lounge chair!
Both of my services were really wonderful, and on par with the Desitnation Spas that I have been too. I was introduced to the Sisley line of products through my Samas visit, and I have been a fan of those ever since. Sámas is definitely on the itinerary for my next trip to Ireland. I can wait to go back “home” and to the inspiration for indulging the senses.
