Spa Peninsula at the Peninsula Hotel (New York, New York)

The Spa Peninsula NYC tied for first place on Conde Nast Traveler’s 2012 Top 75 Hotel Spas (US Mainland).    So that seemed a logical pick for a spa visit in NYC.    I was impressed that for a hotel they also offered  some fitness classes, which as a spa guest you have access to.  Not only do they offer the usual yoga and pilates classes, but they also offer aqua fitness classes in their pool.  That reminds me of  some Destination Spas, rather than a Hotel Spa.   That along a special healthy menu, available by the pool, you could turn a stay at the Peninsula hotel in to your very on mini-destination spa.

Now, full disclosure, I did not actually stay at the Peninsula, as they were sold out that weekend.  But I did make a day of my visit to the spa, with some fitness classes, some relaxation time and some spa time, all before a fabulous dinner a block or so down the street from the hotel!

It was a rainy day in NYC on my spa visit, so being able to still lounge by a pool indoor was a nice bonus to my planned spa day.  The pool and lounge area are a flight or two upstairs from the spa reception and main spa floor.

The Peninsula Spa

The spa itself was surprisingly larger for a NYC hotel spa.   In addition to the locker room, and showers, and steam room, there areas appointed for getting ready with toiletries, and hair dryers, etc.   There are is also a main waiting area for you therapist to greet you, as well as a relaxation room with 4 ultra comfy lounges

I opted for one of their signature services, which is the Jade Hot Stone Massage.  This was two-hours of spa decadence with a scrub, moisturizing serum followed by a massage with hot stones and jade.  After two hours of bliss and exfoliation, my skin looked and felt amazing.

In addition, I had a facial with an amazing esthetician named Jeanine.   Even my massage therapist raved about Jeanine.  I had the custom facial planned, but Jeanine suggested that I go with a cold facial which I had never had before and was perfect for my skin.

Summary

All in all, I had a great day, albeit an expensive one at the Spa Peninsula.  I can see why it was ranked so highly for a hotel spa, although it doesn’t quite make my top list of hotel and resort spas.  But, I absolutely  would definitely go back to the Peninsula Spa, but with so many other spa in NYC, I would definitely be going back for the facial with Jeanine and the fitness classes and relaxation time by the pool.
