White Elephant Spa (Nantucket, MA)

My friend, Mandy, a long-time vacationer to Nantucket, brought the Spa at the White Elephant Hotel to my attention. We were planning a long weekend visit in Nantucket, and she of course knew about my love of spas.   It was a quick trip, and I wasn’t sure if I would squeeze it in. However, at my friends’ encouraging, I decided to try for a last a minute appointment.

As luck would have it – the Spa Gods were smiling down on me, and clearly it was meant to be – they had a last minute cancellation, and could accommodate me for a 60-minute massage.   Beggar’s can’t be choosers, so I went with what was available, which greatly reduced the decision-making process. However, at the same time, it did not allow me to check out any other signature services.

The waiting area is small, with only 4 lounge chairs, but I imagine that there are not a lot of spa appointments, and so there may not be that many individuals there at that time.   However, despite its size, the waiting area was pleasant enough, with windows and views of the water, and it is bright and cheery.

Upon being greeted by my massage therapist, I was walked back to the treatment room.   The treatment room was roomy enough.   Given that you come into the room in your street clothes, there is more time spent making sure that I pulled off jewelry, and put down my purse. And also had to be reminded by my therapist that my sunglasses were on my head!

The massage itself was very nice and very relaxing and I found myself impressed by the technique and the results as my most recent knots and stress were melting away.  If you are definitely looking for some relaxing spa time while on Nantucket, then you will certainly enjoy the traditional services, but there are not a lot of selections on the Service Menu.   I certainly would love to get back to White Elephant and enjoy the services more fully with a little more planning. All in all it’s a quaint and small, but charming spa, just like the island itself.

Tip:  Given its size, book your appointments early!
